Changing your thoughts
Recently, I was doing a bit of research for a social media post about how where you put your focus, energy follows. The deeper I dived, the more I realised it was a bit more specific than that and that it was really about how our thoughts affect us and shape our reality and how we perceive the world around us.
What I discovered in layman’s terms is that our thoughts create our beliefs & they also determine our emotions, our words, our behaviour, our actions and our overall wellbeing.
When you view it this way, you can see what a huge impact thoughts have on our lives. It’s so easy to allow ourselves to get carried away repeating the same negative loops (trust me, I’ve been there!)
I read somewhere that the average adult has anywhere between 6,000 to 70,000 thoughts a day (depending on the research). Out of that, around 80% are negative! AND about 90% of our thoughts are repetitive! 🙄 Soooo much negative looping in our heads.
No wonder so many people have so much noise in their heads and are so stressed!
When you become aware the power our thoughts have on your life, then you can start to be more mindful of our internal dialogue and start focusing on how we truly want our life to be. I know it’s not easy to change this but it can be done.
Some things you can do to get out of the loop from negative to positive (or neutral) thoughts:
Every time you catch yourself having a thought that doesn’t help you, change it. Give it a different ending.
One of my favourite tools is when you catch a negative thought, say “stop!” out loud to stop you going down that negative spiral. It helps you acknowledge the thought and take back control.
Try allowing the thought to come in and remember that it’s a thought. It’s not real in this present moment and you don’t have to act on it.
Meditate. Meditating can take many forms from stillness, to walking meditations but any which way you do it, it can really help.
Exercise. Whatever it is that appeals to you. When your body is in motion, it’s hard to think.
Be present in whatever it is you’re doing. This calms the thoughts.
Spend time in nature. Nature really helps to ground us so naturally takes us out of our heads.
Create your own positive affirmations that make you feel good. Sometimes it’s easier to repeat mantras in your head, rather than let the pesky thoughts go wild in your head!
Have a Reiki or Sound session. Ok, I may be a little bias there, but any type of energy healing is great. It’s a great reset helping to take you out of your head and in to your heart. In my Intuitive healing sessions, we can chat about things specific to you that will help get you out of your head.
Each time you catch your thoughts getting out of control, don’t get upset with yourself. Just try again. It’s not easy to rewire your brain, it takes practice and time but you can give yourself a better headspace if you make some effort.
Remember, it will take time to change the negative thought patterns but you can do it. You CAN change your thoughts, and a better reality for yourself! 💓
On a parting note, I found this little quote that I really loved and wanted to share with you.
“Change your thoughts and you change your world.”
