Becoming a Reiki Master
After eight months of deep self discovery, healing and expansion and a crap load of homework(!!), I am proud to have been initiated as a Reiki Master Teacher (in the Usui Reiki lineage)! 💓 The journey wasn’t easy or straight forward but it has certainly has expanded my knowledge of Reiki, healing and self.
The journey to becoming a Reiki Master Teacher
The journey to Reiki Master teacher looks something like this. You undertake three levels of courses before getting to the Master level of training. Each level builds on the previous level.
At the end of each level, you are attuned to the Reiki energy for where you are at. My Reiki mentor, Julie described an attunement as turning the dial on a radio station so that you are fine tuned in to that frequency. I love that analogy!
After each level, there is a period of time that must pass to allow the Reiki energy to integrate in you. It is preferred that you don’t rush it and learn what you need to learn with time to fully assimilate what is happening for you.
Reiki level 1 is all about self-healing and healing of friends and family. Level 2 is the Practitioner level where you deepen your relationship with Reiki and then you can begin to practise Reiki for a fee. Level 3a is the introduction to the Master level; a bit of a teaser really.
It is recommended that you feel in to yourself if you are ready to commence on the next level but it took me over a year before I commenced on to the final level of Reiki Mastership training.
Reiki Mastership Teacher training
The Reiki Mastership Teacher level is an intense one on one training with your Reiki Mentor. You can undertake Mastership training on a fortnight basis, but for me it was weekly sessions. As Julie explained to me, doing weekly sessions really keeps you connected & immersed in the Reiki bubble. From my experience I felt very held by Julie doing the training weekly and could see if it were fortnightly, that I would come and go from the experience. But that’s just me. I could see how fortnightly might suit others better.
There was loads of homework, research, analysis and self-reflection that comes up from the homework assigned. A lot of the time, the tasks I was assigned to work on did really get me to analyse and question myself, and there were weeks were I felt so rough from everything that was coming up. I felt like a big open wound at times as I navigated darker parts of myself, but Julie helped me navigate the way, guiding me, making me question my values and beliefs. But with every challenging period, there is growth and huge ah-ha moments and that’s where the Reiki Mastership journey was so valuable for me. If you look at it this way…. if you aren’t prepared to do the hard work to look at and work on healing your own wounds, then how can you truly relate and help others on their journey to health????
I’m so proud and grateful to myself for taking on the challenge and taking a deep dive. But mostly, I’m so very grateful for my Reiki mentor, Julie who held me through this process. For making me feel seen and guiding me through the process.

The Reiki Master Teacher is a pathway to learning more about self at a deeper level to be able to support others on their path, and then teaching others. My intention for this journey is not to teach. It’s to integrate these learnings and knowledge, wisdom to support clients in my healing practise…. but who knows what the future holds?!
If you’re thinking about starting Reiki training or Reiki mastership, I encourage you to do it. If you apply yourself; the growth, evolvement and learning and expansiveness is so immense!. Yes, it is a challenging journey, but the deep reflections and work you do on self will be so worth it.
If you want to ask me any questions about this, don’t hesitate to reach out.
All my love. Joanne. 💓
